Given the sheer size of the Dinokeng Game Reserve (a total of 18 000ha) and the fact that it was started by the state, and it is now owned by the state, private tourism companies and landowners, the reserve boasts a wide selection of comfortable accommodation – from game lodges to farm stays, bush camps and chalets.

The list of places to stay is quite extensive, and because scouring the Internet for accommodation can be quite laborious, we’ve compiled a short go-to list with just a few of the current accommodation options within the reserve:

Foreva Wild
A stylish, full-service guest house that’s ideally located to watch the sun set and get up close with the roaming animals, and with enough relaxation to clear your mind of the daily pressures of city life.

Foreva Wild offers four private units and a two bedroom cottage. Each private unit consists of either two ¾ beds or king size beds and en-suite bathrooms. Each unit is also quipped with air conditioning, satellite TV, complimentary Wi-Fi and its own private patio.

The cottage can accommodate four people and up to six people on request. The cottage also has en-suite bathrooms, air conditioning, complimentary Wi-Fi and satellite TV.

Two of the private units and the cottage are now available for self-catering by prior arrangement with Foreva Wild.

Uvivi Lodge
Great for small groups or families, Uvivi offers two self-catering chalets with cosy finishes, king-sized beds and pull-out sleeper couches.

Adama
Adama offers four self-catering thatched chalets in a wilderness setting that’s close to and yet still so far away from the noise of the big cities.

Bushbaby/Nagapie and Plover/Kiewiet, the two smaller chalets, can comfortably accommodate two adults and one child. Hoopoo/Hoepoe and Kingfisher/Visvanger, the two larger chalets, can comfortably accommodate up to seven people (five adults and two children).

Scenic walks, untouched terrain, an abundance of birdlife and the occasional big animal stopping to stare at you make for a great recipe to unwind and shrug off the frenetic pace of the city – even if it’s just for a day or two.

Bushbabies Bushveld Lodge
Nestled in a lush garden and offering self-catering accommodation for couples, families or larger groups, Bushbabies Bushveld Lodge makes for a good escape the bustle of city life. Three self-catering chalets placed around a swimming pool and lapa mean you’re comfortable despite being so deep in the wild.

The Dinokeng Game Reserve, which launched in 2011, is increasingly being recognised as a conveniently located wildlife destination – which is why you should book accommodation and game drives well ahead of your visit.
