Gauteng Tourism Authority Collaborates with TGCSA for Basic Quality Verification Programme
The Gauteng Tourism Authority (GTA) has partnered with the Tourism Grading Council of South Africa (TGCSA) to introduce an innovative initiative aimed at improving the quality of ungraded accommodation establishments in the province. The Basic Quality Verification (BQV) Programme is designed to empower these businesses by providing a pathway toward formal quality assurance and eventual grading under TGCSA standards.
What is the Basic Quality Verification Programme?
The BQV Programme targets accommodation establishments that have not yet been graded but are eager to elevate their offerings to meet national quality standards. This initiative provides these businesses with:
- Access to training programmes that equip them with essential skills and resources.
- Guidance on quality assurance practices to ensure excellent service delivery.
- Funding opportunities to aid establishments in meeting TGCSA grading requirements.
By participating in this programme, ungraded establishments can build a strong foundation for growth and competitiveness in South Africa’s vibrant tourism sector.
Recruitment of Basic Quality Evaluators
To ensure the success of the BQV Program, GTA and TGCSA are recruiting Basic Quality Evaluators (BQEs) who will play a pivotal role in assessing and verifying 216 ungraded tourism businesses across Gauteng.
Who can apply? The programme is seeking dynamic individuals with:
- An NQF Level 5 qualification in Tourism or Hospitality.
- A passion for making a meaningful impact in the tourism industry.
Successful candidates will undergo comprehensive training, equipping them with the knowledge and skills to evaluate businesses effectively and contribute to enhancing the province’s tourism standards.

The Importance of Grading in Tourism
Grading plays a crucial role in boosting South Africa’s tourism competitiveness. TGCSA grading is a mark of quality that assures travelers of exceptional service and facilities, encouraging repeat visits and positive reviews. The BQV Programme bridges the gap for businesses that are not yet graded, creating opportunities for growth and sustainability.
A Collaborative Effort for a Brighter Future
The partnership between GTA and TGCSA reflects a shared commitment to uplifting the tourism industry in Gauteng. By investing in the development of ungraded establishments and recruiting skilled evaluators, this initiative promises to create a more inclusive, high-quality, and competitive tourism landscape.
